Gemstone Reflexology & Acupressure
Reflexology – the art of reading the body stress through the pressure points on the feet.
What is Reflexology?
Reflexology is a gentle, deeply relaxing non-invasive therapy. It is based on the principle that there are zones and reflex areas in the feet and hands that correspond to all the internal organs and other structures of the body via thousands of nerve endings and energy pathways. The use of precise hand and finger techniques on these reflexes help to balance the body, re-establish energy flows and stimulates the body’s own natural healing capacity, resulting in better health. Basic reflexology techniques can be used by anyone at home to promote balance, reduce stress and manage pain.
Good results relating to pain relief, improved digestive processes, muscle relaxation, improved circulation and lymphatic flow can be obtained very quickly.
You don’t need to have a reason to have a reflexology treatment. The experience is deeply relaxing and can simply be given to revitalise the body and promote a restful night sleep.
What to expect during the hour
On your first visit, a brief health history will be taken while you soak your feet in a foot bath followed by a scrub treatment. An explanation of reflexology and it benefits will be given and you will have the opportunity to ask any questions.
The session starts with some gentle relaxation techniques in preparation for working on the reflex areas of the feet. The treatment is tailored to the individual and the pressure used will be adjusted to your sensitivity
Many clients drift into a deep state of relaxation or fall asleep during their treatment, enabling the body’s own healing mechanism to work.
The session will be discussed with you and suggestions made for the best course of action to achieve your health goals.
Reflexology Self Care
After your reflexology treatment you will receive a personal hand out with some self care Reflexology techniques that you can do in between treatments. To prolong the effects of your treatment and aid the healing process you should increase your water intake to help the body detoxify. A Reflexology session will take 60 minutes. Please allow 1.5 hr for the first consultation.
How often do I need a reflexology session?
Regular reflexology sessions are beneficial in maintaining health and well begin, the effects are cumulative. Monthly visits can help keep stress in check and build immunity. However, if you are seeking treatment for chronic or acute conditions, then frequency and quantity of treatments will vary and a treatment plan will be tailored accordingly.

But I have ticklish feet!
Reflexology should not tickle! The pressure is very gentle and is applied with the thumbs and fingers. Clients with very ticklish feet are surprised at how much they have enjoyed the treatment.
In India, a country whose history has largely been shaped by religion, the feet were thought 5000 years ago to symbolize the unity of the entire universe. The Sanskrit symbols depicted on the feet of Buddha were seen as expressions of a higher reality. By l00 A.D. Buddhism had spread to China, and by the hands of the monks so did reflexology. Reflexology was practiced in China 4000 years ago as part of acupuncture and moxibustion. It is described in the Chinese medical text, the Yellow Emperor's Classic of Internal Medicine, where it is called the Examining Foot Method. A Japanese monk studying in China is given credit for introducing reflexology to Japan upon his return home.
We cannot determine the exact relationship between the ancient art as practiced by the early Egyptians etc. and reflexology as we know it today but in the last few centuries many people have pioneered, developed and built the solid foundation for reflexology as it is currently practiced.
